THE FOLLOWING is ending its run next week with a two-hour series finale, and the action doesn’t slow down for one minute.
“[In] the final two hours, we’ll be picking up directly from episode 13 with the brutal stabbing of Mike, and Mike’s life hanging in the balance,” THE FOLLOWING co-showrunner Brett Mahoney teased. “And what that means for the relationship between Mike and Max. We pick up directly from there.”
While Mike’s fate is up in the air, Ryan will find himself with a new will to live now that he knows his former girlfriend, Gwen, is pregnant with his child.

THE FOLLOWING’s Ryan Hardy is in trouble.
Though Ryan started off the year in a better place, his composure has been gradually slipping…and having to reunite with Joe Carroll for his current case only accelerated the process. And now with Ryan struggling to maintain his composure (no thanks to some very unsettling Joe-centric dreams) while there’s a new madman, Theo, on the loose, his sanity is very much in jeopardy. Plus, Theo is very unhappy with Ryan being so close on his tail (and for “forcing” Theo to get rid of his family to go on the run), and Joe is not pleased that Ryan refuses to come to his execution, so poor Ryan has a lot on his plate.
I spoke with THE FOLLOWING co-showrunner Brett Mahoney about Ryan’s spiral (and how it impacts his ability as an agent), the return of Mark, Theo and Joe’s anger, the “very big and cinematic” finale, and much more…
THE FOLLOWING Exclusive Sneak Peek: Producers, Michael Ealy Tease Theo and Ryan Meeting

Things are heating up for THE FOLLOWING’s newest big bad, Theo.
In the exclusive video preview of this Monday’s new hour, “Flesh & Blood,” (below) co-showrunner Alexi Hawley shared, “Episode 8 is a big moment in the hunt for Theo…and he ultimately ends up having to scramble to keep us away from him during the course of the episode.”
“He’s created this whole life that is sort of perfect,” co-showrunner Brett Mahoney added. “And that’s why he truly resents Ryan getting on to him. No one has really done this before.”
Additionally, we’ll get to see a bit of parallels between the two as they have to deal with pressures outside of the chase: Theo has to throw a party for his wife, while Ryan has to attend a dinner party with his girlfriend. But those external forces won’t compare to the real explosive moment of the hour: when Ryan and Theo have their first “meeting.”
“The episode where Ryan and Theo meet, that’s where the fireworks will begin,” Michael Ealy (Theo) teased. “It’s a smart chess match between the two.”
Check out the video for more teases, and a little glimpse at what’s to come…
THE FOLLOWING Bosses on a Ryan Hardy-Centric Season 3, Michael Ealy’s New Big Bad, and More

We’re just three weeks away from the two-hour season premiere of THE FOLLOWING, and things are set to be a bit different when the show returns.
First of all, the Joe Carroll chapter of the series is over. While Carroll made it out alive (and James Purefoy’s Carroll will appear on the show) — thanks to an alternate ending not making the final cut — the focus of the show will shift more fully to Kevin Bacon’s Ryan Hardy. (And Ryan will have to contend with a new baddie this season.)
There’s also been a behind-the-scenes transition in showrunners, as THE FOLLOWING creator Kevin Williamson has handed over showrunner duties to a trio of show vets: writers/executive producers Brett Mahoney and Alexi Hawley, as well as director/executive producer Marcos Siega. (Williamson has been focused on CBS’ STALKER.)
I spoke with Mahoney and Hawley about the transition to showrunning THE FOLLOWING, “moving the center of the show,” why fans of THE FOLLOWING newbie Michael Ealy will be excited by the season, and more…

Comments Off on THE FOLLOWING: Showrunner Jennifer Johnson to Exit
THE FOLLOWING’s new showrunner Jennifer Johnson is leaving the Fox drama to focus on developing new projects for WBTV, a source confirms.
Johnson’s exit (which was first reported by Deadline) comes less than three months after she joined the series, and just a month after she appeared at Comic-Con to promote the show. She had been brought in to replace THE FOLLOWING creator/showrunner Kevin Williamson, who stepped down from his day-to-day duties to focus on his new series, STALKER.
