CBS has renewed 18 shows for the 2014-2015 season, the network announced.
“The best way to launch new shows in the fall and throughout the season is to surround them with a strong and stable lineup of successful series,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment in a statement. “The shows we’re picking up today cut across every night of the week and feature genre leaders, time-period winners and the most-watched shows on broadcast television.”

BACKSTROM: Genevieve Angelson Set As the New Female Lead

Comments Off on BACKSTROM: Genevieve Angelson Set As the New Female Lead
The upcoming Fox series BACKSTROM (which has already had a crazy development journey) has found a new female lead: a rep for the show confirms that Genevieve Angelson has joined the show.
Angelson will play Detective Nicole Gravely, a role that was originally played by Mamie Gummer in the CBS version of the pilot. Detective Gravely is Backstom (Rainn Wilson)’s second-in-command, and has to deal with his constant, um, questionable behavior.
TV viewers may recognize Angelson from her recurring role on HOUSE OF LIES or guest spots on THE GOOD WIFE, ARMY WIVES, or THE GLADES.
BACKSTROM will debut on Fox during the 2014-2015 season.

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL is Coming to CBS
February 5, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
We may have a few months before CBS’ fall 2014 lineup gets solidified, but one big piece of the puzzle has been placed: CBS has won the rights to air NFL’s Thursday Night Football — which consists of eight early season games — the network announced today.
“We are very pleased to build on our outstanding partnership with the NFL by expanding our coverage to Thursday nights,” said CBS Corporation President and CEO Leslie Moonves in a statement. “CBS is a premium content company and the NFL represents the best premium content there is. I look forward to all this new deal will do for us not only on Thursday nights, but across our entire schedule.”
With CBS using eight Thursdays on the sporting event, no word yet on what impact that will have on its scripted shows currently there. (Perhaps a few will be shuffled, and a few others will be delayed?)
Do you think you’ll check out football on CBS?

CBS has given out its first bit of good news for the season: MOM, THE CRAZY ONES, and THE MILLERS will get their “back nines” — AKA, they’ll each get a full first season.
“We’re proud of CBS’s leadership position in comedy and excited to build on it with the back nine pick-ups of these three new comedies,” said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment in a statement. “These series are creatively distinct, continue to improve each week and are led by strong showrunners, writing and production staffs, and feature amazingly talented casts.”

CBS Shakes Up Its Monday Lineup: WE ARE MEN Pulled, 2 Broke Girls to Air Earlier, MIKE & MOLLY to Return Early
October 9, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
CBS has opted to shake up its Monday lineup after its current HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER-WE ARE MEN-2 BROKE GIRLS-MOM block didn’t work out the way they hoped it would: starting next Monday, 2 BROKE GIRLS will move to 8:30 PM (replacing WE ARE MEN, which has been pulled from the lineup completely), and THE BIG BANG THEORY reruns will take its normally scheduled Monday at 9 PM slot. Then, starting on November 4th, MIKE & MOLLY will fill the 9 PM slot. MOM will remain at 9:30 PM.
Are you sad to lose WE ARE MEN? Will 2 BROKE GIRLS moving to 8:30 mess up your Monday night schedule? Or are you only watching CBS Mondays for HIMYM?

CBS Makes Its Rupert Grint and Stephen Fry Pilot, SUPER CLYDE, Available to Stream
October 9, 2013 by Marisa Roffman

Comments Off on CBS Makes Its Rupert Grint and Stephen Fry Pilot, SUPER CLYDE, Available to Stream
Last pilot season Greg Garcia was involved with two comedy pilot: THE MILLERS, a multi-cam show starring Will Arnett, Margo Martindale, and Beau Bridges that ended up getting picked up, and SUPER CLYDE, a single-cam comedy about a wannabe super hero starring Rupert Grint and Stephen Fry that ultimately was passed on. And while Garcia was thrilled THE MILLERS got picked up, when he and I spoke over the summer about his new comedy, he told me at the time he had hopes that one day the pilot for SUPER CLYDE would be made available for people to see.
“I still love it, I’m so proud of it,” Garcia told me at the time. “But the other one got picked. And I love this one. So there’s no losing, but it is a bummer. I was asking if we can try to get [the pilot] on somewhere. It’s got Stephen Fry who’s amazing. It’s got Rupert Grint. It’s got a built-in fanbase for these people. Let’s put it on Netflix, let’s put it on iTunes, I just want some people to see it, because I’m proud of it.”
And now, people can: CBS has made the pilot available on their website to stream.
I’m very curious, will you be giving it a shot, even with knowing it wasn’t picked up and that will almost certainly be it? Or are you going to pass on watching it?

CBS Picks Up Vince Gilligan/David Shore Drama Straight to Series

Comments Off on CBS Picks Up Vince Gilligan/David Shore Drama Straight to Series
CBS has opted to get into the straight-to-series order for the 2014-2015 season: the network has picked up BATTLE CREEK, a detective drama from BREAKING BAD creator Vince Gilligan…a show that was originally developed over 10 years ago. (Hey, a good idea is a good idea, huh?)
Now that the show is moving forward, they’ve brought on HOUSE creator David Shore to be an executive produce/writer/showrunner on the series.
Are you intrigued by the idea of Gilligan doing a CBS show?

Comments Off on HOSTAGES: Executive Producers Jeffrey Nachmanoff and Rick Eid on Crafting a Satisfying Season 1 Arc
CBS is trying something a little bit different this television season: HOSTAGES, a 15-episode serialized drama starring Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott, about a surgeon who is taken hostage with her family…right before she was scheduled to operate on the President of the United States. In theory, this is a show you might expect to see on a cable network, not CBS, which is known more for its procedural offerings.
To get a little bit of intel on how the show might work — and what’s to come — I spoke with HOSTAGES executive producers Jeffrey Nachmanoff and Rick Eid…
