AGENTS OF SHIELD: Clark Gregg and Jeff Ward on the Special Guest Star in ‘Code Yellow’

Comments Off on AGENTS OF SHIELD: Clark Gregg and Jeff Ward on the Special Guest Star in ‘Code Yellow’
AGENTS OF SHIELD has had its share of fun guest stars over the course of the series, but the Friday, May 31 episode has a pretty special appearance: SHIELD co-creator/co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen.
Tancharoen—who previously appeared in a number of projects, including DOLLHOUSE and DR. HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG BLOG—plays Sequoia, an influencer whose storyline intersects with Deke (Jeff Ward).
“It was amazing [to work with her in ‘Code Yellow’],” Ward told reporters. “Maurissa is so awesome. She’s such an amazing boss to work with and for. To have her on set, in front of the camera with us, figuring it out as we went along, it was a really cool experience. A) She’s a very fun actor to play with, but B) because she’s also the boss. It was such a weird, funny thing.”
“It was funny, because, usually, you’ll be figuring something out and the director is there and the writer of that episode is there…and the writer and the director have a certain amount of authority,” he continued. “So when all of a sudden Maurissa is an actor in the scene, we’ll be like, ‘Well, this should be like this,’ and the writer will be like, ‘Yes? Can I say that?’ She killed it. [Our characters] have a very fun rapport.”
Added Clark Gregg: “A lot of us have been quietly waiting and hoping that Maurissa would step to this side of the camera. She has an incredible background. She’s been a dancer in Michael Jackson videos. A successful musician, a successful actor, and now a really successful writer; she can do anything. She’s been a mom, on top of that, to the cutest child in the world. It was really a thrill for us getting her out there.”
“Code Yellow” sheds more light into what Deke has been up to while he’s been off-screen—and puts him on a collision path with Gregg’s new character, Sarge.
“It’s the first time we see Sarge play along with [the idea he is] this person everyone thinks he is,” Gregg said. “But it’s just so he can find out other ways to kill people.”
“Some of my favorite scenes to film [this season] were between Sarge and Deke, when they see each other for the first time,” Ward added.

Few shows on television keep secrets as well as ABC’s MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., and combining that with the many threads the show has raised, well…there are a lot of balls up in the air for the show to play with in these final seven episodes of the season.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has been off the air for a while, but it returns tonight with a new episode and…a friend for Coulson?!
“Everybody has that friend that knows a little too much about them,” S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg told reporters. “And I would say Bill Paxton’s character and Agent Coulson are both that to each other…I always think about this scene [in the movie] where Agent Coulson and Thor walk out with this megaphone to deal with this giant, metal death monster in the desert, and he’s like, ‘Oh, God, what do we have now?’ And I thought that was such a telling scene, because I thought, what has his week been like if this is boring to him? And when you see the [banter] between Agent Coulson and Agent Garrett, which is [Paxton’s] character’s name, you think, yeah, these two guys have been through one too many weeks like that.”
