DOCTOR WHO: Steven Moffat Teases Maisie Williams’ Role

GAME OF THRONES’ Maisie Williams will have a high-profile guest spot between seasons: she’ll pop up on DOCTOR WHO.
“I think, once you see what she’s up to in the show, you’ll appreciate what a clever idea of [executive producer] Brian Minchin’s…who thought of Maisie for this part,” Steven Moffat told reporters during the DOCTOR WHO panel at the Television Critics Association tour. “And I think it’s a significant role. We are not throwing her away. You know, we are not just getting the star value and doing nothing with it. It’s a great part, and she’s terrific in it. But I would say it will develop in unexpected ways.”
And with that, Moffat also sought out to correct one misconception about Williams’ character: that she’s playing a character that has already been introduced.
“One thing I think is worth saying because it keeps coming up as an issue: she is not playing a returning character,” he said. “She is a brand new character. She’s not someone from the Doctor’s past — unless I’m lying.”
Who do you think Williams is playing?

Later this year, DOCTOR WHO will say goodbye to its 11th Doctor.
“I’ve done it for four years, and it we shoot nine, ten months a year,” Matt Smith (The Doctor) told reporters at the BBC America Television Critics Association session. “And I think the show is it has come to a sort of a natural tipping point, and it’s at the top of a cycle, and I think I don’t know really. It’s a good time for me and for the show. But I’ve had a great time. I’ll miss it, and it was a hard choice. It wasn’t an easy choice to make.”
Which means that Smith has since wondered if he made the correct choice to walk away from the iconic role.
