With Jimmy Fallon going through several injuries this year,  it would make sense for him to think about who would take over for him in case something happened to him. Or, at least it would make a delightful EMPIRE sketch with Fallon as a Lucious Lyon-esque figure, who is trying to figure out who he should leave his comedy empire to.

Watch Fox’s EMPIRE Season 2 Premiere Event!

Fox is kicking off EMPIRE’s second season in style.

The musical smash will return to our televisions on Wednesday, September 23rd, but the network is throwing a huge premiere event tonight (Saturday, September 12th)…and you can watch what goes down!

Starting at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT, Fox will livestream the event (from Carnegie Hall in New York), which will feature a Q&A with Terrence Howard (Lucious), Taraji P. Henson (Cookie), Jussie Smollett (Jamal), Trai Byers (Andre), Bryshere Y. Gray (Hakeem), Grace Gealey (Anika), Kaitlin Doubleday (Rhonda), Gabourey Sidibe (Becky), Ta’Rhonda Jones (Porsha), Serayah McNeil (Tiana), co-creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, showrunner Ilene Chaiken, and executive producer Francie Calfo. And, of course, there will also be some performances in store.

EMPIRE: Pitbull to Guest Star

EMPIRE has added to its season 2 guest list: Pitbull will guest star and perform, Fox announced.

Per Fox, Pitbull will perform “No Doubt About It” with Jamal (Jussie Smollett), “in an episode slated to air this fall.”

He joins already announced guest stars Chris Rock, Kelly Rowland, Marisa Tomei, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Adam Rodriguez, Andre Royo, and more.

EMPIRE: Andre Royo Teases His Guest Arc

With Lucious Lyon in jail by the end of EMPIRE’s breakout first season, he’ll need a new ally in his corner: Andre Royo’s “Thirsty” Rawlings.

“[He]’s a lawyer,” Royo told reporters. “It’s [been] pretty cool, it’s a fun time…[Terrence Howard] is a very dynamic dude — [as is] the whole cast. It’s probably the closest to that theater feel; the script is there, and that’s a blueprint. I come from THE WIRE, 95 percent was on the page — don’t even try to ad lib, though I got away with [some]. But overall, with EMPIRE and me and Terrence, it’s a real dynamic theater [feel], and it helps me have a theatrical spin — everything is big, everything is over the top, and at the end of the day, you just enjoy. So I’m having a blast.”

Royo’s lawyer is not particularly musically inclined — but that could, of course, change. “If I do [a song], it will probably be more rapping,” he laughed.

EMPIRE Season 2: Fox Releases the First Promo

With just nine weeks until EMPIRE season 2 launches, Fox released the first promo for the breakout hit’s sophomore season.

In the (short) tease, viewers get a hint of new music, a trendy new hashtag (#FreeLucious), and Cookie visiting Lucious in jail.

EMPIRE: Andre Royo to Recur

Andre Royo is joining the EMPIRE.

A rep for the show has confirmed that Royo will recur in the upcoming second season as Thirsty Rawlings, a lawyer who impresses Lucious. (As you may recall, Lucious ended the season in jail.)

Royo — who is best known for his role on THE WIRE — recently appeared on HAPPYISH, and is part of the upcoming Amazon original series, HAND OF GOD.

TVLine was first to report the casting.

EMPIRE: Marisa Tomei to Recur

Marisa Tomei will recur on EMPIRE’s upcoming second season, a rep for the show has confirmed.

According to Deadline (who was first to report the news), Tomei will play Mimi Whiteman, a “demanding venture capitalist who becomes involved in Lyon family drama. A Forbes list billionairess, Mimi is a lover of hip hop music, social trends, high-end fashion and beautiful women.”

EMPIRE: Watch the Cast Perform ‘No Apologies,’ ‘Drip Drop,’ and ‘You’re So Beautiful’ at the BET Awards

The cast of EMPIRE hit the BET Awards stage on Sunday night to perform a medley of season 1 hits. And if, somehow, the show’s catchy songs had managed to get out of your head, odds are good this performance will put them back in there for another few weeks.
