Fox Orders BACKSTROM to Series

January 7, 2014 by

Fox is staying in business with BONES boss Hart Hanson: the network has picked up 13 episodes of BACKSTROM, a procedural (led by former THE OFFICE star Rainn Wilson) based on a Swedish book series of the same name. The project had been in the works at CBS last season, but the network had opted against moving forward with the show.

Take a look at what those involved with BACKSTROM’s second chance at life have to say about the matter…

ENLISTED vs. BONES Prop War: ENLISTED’s Kevin Biegel Promises ‘We’re Coming For You’

November 1, 2013 by

The television industry can be super serious at times…and then there are those times you come across people just having way too much fun.

Case in point? The recent BONES versus ENLISTED prop war.

The two shows film on the Fox lot (and actually shoot on neighboring sound stages), and with both BONES creator Hart Hanson and ENLISTED creator Kevin Biegel being more than a little mischievous (not to mention ENLISTED star Geoff Stults formerly starred on Hanson’s BONES “spinoff” THE FINDER), they’ve taken to leaving little mementos from their show on the other’s sets. (So far, they’ve planted a couple of posters, a tire, and a little plane.)

But in a town where you often have to go big or go home, it seems the best is yet to come.

When I visited the ENLISTED set earlier this week, Biegel told me he wants to end this prop war in a massive, massive way. (Fellow executive producer Mike Royce claims he wants no part in it, but let’s see if they can rope him in.) Take a look at what they’re hoping to do…

BONES: Karine Rosenthal on Writing the Booth and Brennan Wedding Episode, ‘The Woman in White’

bones-wedding-featured

BONES’ Booth and Brennan are now officially married!

It took 172 episodes, years of banter, a few other love interests, more disgusting bodies than any human should ever recall — and a last-minute fire to the church and case to solve — but Booth and Brennan swapped vows in Monday night’s episode, “The Woman in White.”

The hour was a big one for the series, and to make sure it was given its proper due, they brought back former BONES writer/producer, Karine Rosenthal (who was with the show from 2006 until 2012), to pen the long-awaited nuptials.

It’s no secret I absolutely adored the hour, and Rosenthal was gracious enough to hop on the phone to chat about returning to the series, what she did to prep for the episode, what didn’t make the cut, and more…

Comments Off on BONES: What You Missed on Your Summer Vacation

A lot has gone down in the BONES world since the season finale aired: while the end of season 8 had things looking grim for Booth and Brennan, by Comic-Con, ‘shippers were once again delighted (if not a little surprised) by the news that B/B would get married in season 9.

And that’s not all that was revealed.

Take a look at everything you missed this summer, including photos from tonight’s season premiere, an episode tease, and all the links you’ll need to catch up…

THE X-FILES’ 20th Anniversary: BONES Creator Hart Hanson Talks About Its Influence on His Work

September 10, 2013 by
Filed under #1 featured, Bones, The X-Files

On September 10, 1993, a little show called THE X-FILES debuted on Fox. It started off modestly enough on Friday nights…until suddenly it grew to be a massive pop culture force: winning Emmys, getting the post-Super Bowl slot in 1997, and making household names out of series stars David Duchovny (Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Scully). The show ultimately ended up producing 202 episodes over nine seasons (not to mention two movies — one released during the show’s run, and one six years after the series ended), and is now living on in a “season 10” comic.

Personally, it massively influenced me as a television fan, arguably more so than any show I’ve watched since. And in the (many) years I’ve been doing this job, it’s been brought up to me more times than I can count as an influence of the shows I’m covering today.

So in honor of the 20th anniversary of the series, I decided to take a different approach in honoring the series: I spoke with some of the television writers who have repeatedly mentioned to me that they have been influenced by THE X-FILES to dig deeper into why this show resonated with them.

First up? BONES/THE FINDER creator Hart Hanson (whose Fox series is also currently filming on the same stages X-FILES filmed on when the show made the move from Vancouver to Los Angeles between seasons 5 and 6)…

BONES Season 9 Premiere: ‘The Secrets in the Proposal’ You Ask, I Answer

September 3, 2013 by

With less than two weeks until BONES’ ninth season premiere, Fox has officially released the screener of the season premiere to press — and all I want to do is talk about what happened with you guys.

Of course, I can’t share everything. I’d like to, but that wouldn’t work out so well. So in the meantime, I asked for your questions via Twitter and Tumblr, I did my best to answer some things for you. That means there will be plenty of teasing about “The Secrets in the Proposal,” but the intention is not to ruin your enjoyment of the hour, so I couldn’t answer some of the very specific/spoilery questions you had. But hopefully you’ll still enjoy these teases…

CASTLE: Andrew Marlowe Teases the ‘Complicated’ Lanie and Esposito Relationship, Dad-to-Be Ryan, Guest Stars, and More

While CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe was (understandably) vague about what’s to come for Castle and Beckett in season 6 given how many question marks are hanging over their head with the various cliffhanger outcomes, he was a little bit more forthcoming about what’s to come for the rest of the people in their world.

Take a look at what he could tease about Ryan, Esposito, Lanie, Alexis, the return of some memorable guest stars, and more…

BONES is gearing up to have one of its biggest seasons ever as the show gets ready to marry off Booth and Brennan…and potentially make the move to Friday night.

To gear up for that, I caught up with BONES creator Hart Hanson to talk about the reasoning for being upfront about the upcoming wedding, paying off a lot of unresolved questions, moving to Fridays, and more…

BONES: 8 Things to Know About ‘The Shot in the Dark’

February 6, 2013 by

BONES brings the danger close to home with Monday’s brand new episode, “The Shot in the Dark,” as Brennan is shot while working in the Jeffersonian.

When I spoke with BONES creator Hart Hanson last month, he teased that this particular episode “turned out really well” and he was pleased with the results. So with that in mind, after I got a chance to view “The Shot in the Dark,” I figured you guys might like a few teases about what goes down in the hour…

BONES: Hart Hanson Talks Booth/Brennan, Hodgins/Angela, Cam/Arastoo, Brennan’s Mother, and More

January 28, 2013 by

There’s a lot of potential relationship drama on BONES right now.

Hodgins and Angela just lost all their money. Cam’s hiding a secret romance. Sweets and Daisy split (and will soon be reunited, professionally). The only couple who seems to be doing well is Booth and Brennan.

But will that last?

I spoke with BONES creator Hart Hanson about some of the couple drama coming up, the (re)introduction of Brennan’s mother, Sweets’ living arrangements, and more…

BONES: Hart Hanson on Getting a Season 9, the Possibility for Season 10, Pelant, and More

January 21, 2013 by

Pelant returns tonight on BONES (star Tamara Taylor teased he returns in a “gnarly, creepy, scary way”) and things get a bit dramatic. (Okay, that might be a really big understatement.)

And while this arc has been going on for more than a year (and potentially may have had a shorter run had things worked out differently), thanks to Fox’s early renewal of BONES, it may be continuing on a little bit longer.

I spoke with BONES creator Hart Hanson about getting season 9 early, if there’s life for the show beyond that, and more…

With a whole bunch of BONES coming your way in the next couple of weeks — the show returns with back-to-back episodes on Monday, January 14th — when I spoke with BONES creator Hart Hanson at the Fox winter press tour party, I wanted to know what he could tease about what’s to come for our Jeffersonian — and FBI — crimefighters. And, well, what he offered up is certainly something different.
