HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’s Craig Thomas and Cobie Smulders Tease the Return of Robin Sparkles

The legend of Robin Sparkles takes a dark turn in tonight’s brand new episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.

“It’s definitely a HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER where it’s not like [there are] lots of fractured storylines that are unrelated to each other, which I like,” HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER co-creator Craig Thomas told me during a recent conference call. “I think a lot of our best episodes have one central theme, and this theme is obsession. What’s the fine line between love and obsession and can anyone be stalker-y? Could that happen to anyone? And everyone’s storyline falls under that one theme. So in the end, the story of Robin Sparkles and her new identity and her new song sheds light on the rest of the gang and where they fall on that line of crazy and love.”

And yes, the rest of the gang will be as thrilled as you’d expect to get another song from the former Canadian pop princess.

It’s Official: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Renewed for a Ninth (and Final) Season

It’s official: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER will return for a ninth and final season. According to CBS,  the entire cast will return “for the final season when audiences will final learn the identity of the ‘Mother.’”

“Through eight years, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER has mastered the art of leading-edge comedy, emotional water-cooler moments and pop culture catch-phrases,” said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment in a statement.  “We are excited for Carter, Craig, Pam Fryman and this amazing cast to tell the final chapter and reveal television’s most mysterious mother to some of TV’s most passionate fans.”

“We‘re thrilled to have the entire and incredibly talented HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER cast back for one final season to bring the series to a proper close,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen of 20^th Century Fox Television.  “Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are masterful and hilarious storytellers, and we have no doubt that they will guide one of the greatest comedies of the last decade to a gratifying conclusion when they finally reveal the identity of the Mother.”

Just yesterday, Thomas and series star Cobie Smulders (Robin) participated in a conference call with reporters and expressed optimism that that show would continue on.

CBS at TCA: Nina Tassler ‘Very Confident’ About a HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Renewal

Late in December, news broke that the cast of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER had signed on for a potential ninth season. At the time, CBS was unable to confirm the news (and whether that meant the show had officially been renewed for the next season), but during CBS President of Entertainment Nina Tassler’s winter press session earlier today, she indicated there should be a resolution soon.

“Well, I will be very happy to report in a very few days, I believe, that things will be resolved,” Tassler said during her executive session. “We’re very confident and excited that things will all work out, and almost everything is completed. Almost everything.”
