Emmys 2015: Watch Jeffrey Tambor’s Speech for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

TRANSPARENT’s Jeffrey Tambor made Emmy history on Sunday night as the first performer to win an award for playing a transgender character.

The win was also a big moment for Tambor, who had previously been nominated for six Emmys (and lost) before tonight’s victory.

Tambor used his win to express the more widespread impact of this role: “I’ve been given the opportunity to act because people’s lives depend on it.”
