Ilene Chaiken has signed on to run the new LAW & ORDER spinoff, ORGANIZED CRIME, reps for the show have confirmed.

Chaiken, whose TV resume includes THE L WORD and EMPIRE, has also signed an overall deal with Universal Television.

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME, which is set to debut in 2021, follows the return of former LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT mainstay Elliot Stabler (played by Christopher Meloni) to the LAW & ORDER universe. Read more

The LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME launch may have been delayed, but it’s on in 2021…and the first rehearsal of the LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT episode that will launch the new spinoff has officially happened.

When NBC returns with new scripted series later this year—in theory, this fall, but COVID-19 restrictions permitting—the sole new show on its lineup is scheduled to be LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME.

The series in many ways is familiar: the show is an expansion of the LAW & ORDER world (Dick Wolf’s fifth active show on NBC alone, when you add in the ONE CHICAGO trio) and is being led by former LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT star Christopher Meloni, who is reprising his Elliot Stabler character to lead up a new team.

Nearly a decade after Christopher Meloni left LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, he’s set to reprise his Elliot Stabler character on the franchise’s latest spinoff, LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME. And while the actor had been consistent in saying he would consider a possible guest starring return to the series he spent 12 seasons on, he acknowledged in a new interview that the spinoff came out of left field.
