Wentworth Miller returns to LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT on Thursday, January 21, as Carisi (Peter Scanavino) seeks out Holmes—who has recently been promoted to be the head of Brooklyn DA’s Civil Rights Unit—for help with a case.
“Holmes comes back not so much as a prosecutor, but as a witness,” executive producer Warren Leight teased via email. “He was a scholarship student at Hudson University (of course), years ago, when an incident occurred, and was covered up. Years later, the shame and guilt he feels about his failure to act then, resurfaces. It may offer him a chance to atone, or it may be too late.”
And while Rollins (Kelli Giddish) was MIA last week, drama is on the horizon. “Rollins did go through a lot this year, and for now, she’s been coping with raising two kids squirreled in a small apartment, in the midst of a pandemic,” Leight acknowledged. “As the season continues, she will once again be under pressure. Look for another Bronx Tale to upend her life.”

2021 starts off on a decidedly wrong note for the LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT squad, as the team gets called into work—delaying some very important plans—when an Amber Alert is issued.
In an exclusive clip from the January 7th episode “Sightless in a Savage Land,” Fin (Ice T) and Olivia (Mariska Hargitay) go over what they have on the case so far: a teen is missing after fighting with her foster parents. But whether she left voluntarily or not is still unknown, and One PP has their eye on the squad, since the foster father is a higher up at ACS.
But as the final moments of 2020 slip away, Phoebe (Jennifer Esposito) joins the duo to share her own insight about the missing girl’s birth mother.
