MAN SEEKING WOMAN is exploring a different element of the dating experience in tonight’s brand new episode: after Liz and Leo split, she’s forced to navigate the modern dating scene…and deals with similar situations to what her brother, Josh, went through when the series started.
“Most of the credit goes to our writer, Sofia Alvarez, who really…had to create a brand new show,” Simon Rich shared about “Teacup.” “She really knocked it out of the park. I’m thrilled at the work she did. And Britt [Lower (Liz)], also, completely nailed it, and did a great job at taking over for Jay [Baruchel (Josh)] as the star this week.”
I spoke with Rich about changing the show up (for one episode), next week’s season finale, and what’s in store for the already-ordered season 2…

MAN SEEKING WOMAN is shaking things up.
The FXX comedy — which is already delightfully bizarre as it follows Josh (Jay Baruchel) on his quest to find love — is switching perspectives for an episode: the March 11th installment, “Teacup,” follows Liz (Britt Lower) as she deals with her breakup from Leo (Ennis Esmer), and sets out on her own quest to find love.
Naturally, things don’t go well. In fact, she finds herself in many situations similar to what Josh went through after his breakup with Maggie (Maya Erskine). And in the exclusive clip below, you can watch Liz and Leo part ways…and Liz finds the weather is following her around.

MAN SEEKING WOMAN’s Josh jumps into another relationship in tonight’s new episode, “Branzino,” and he becomes convinced Rachel is “the one.” So, naturally, Josh takes her home for a unique “meet the parents” night.
“He introduces his new girlfriend to his mom,” MAN SEEKING WOMAN writer Dan Mirk told reporters on the series’ Toronto set. (Mirk wrote “Branzino.”) “And they have to go on [a talk show] called LATE NIGHT WITH MOM. It’s a late night talk show hosted by his mom.”
And after Rachel passes the family test, the new couple takes a drastic step: they become surgically conjoined.

In tonight’s brand new episode of MAN SEEKING WOMAN, Josh and Mike head to a destination wedding…in Hell.
But before the duo can get there, Josh — in a funk from his hookup with his ex, Maggie, being a one-time thing — is encouraged by his sister, Liz, to come out for a night of dancing with her and her boyfriend. But, with this being MAN SEEKING WOMAN, the “dancing” isn’t what you might expect.

The new FXX comedy MAN SEEKING WOMAN has put Jay Baruchel’s Josh through a lot in the first few episodes — an ex who went on to date Hitler, a lost penis, a government task force that assists in sending text messages to women — but for the actor, he had the luxury of knowing where his character was going from the start.
“[The writers] been really good enough to walk me through all of it,” Baruchel told reporters on the show’s Toronto set. “I knew when we started where [Josh is] going to end up at the end of the year, and where we have to go if we get to do more of them [in season 2].”
“Part of what makes the show so genius and why we can get away with the crazy stuff we do is it’s all grounded in experience we’ve all gone through at some point,” he continued. “For every episode, I have a very specific frame of reference: I haven’t been electrocuted or covered in semen in real-life, but I’ve certainly been through the minefield that is dating in your 20s. We always want to make sure the audience has something to connect to.”
And while the out-there circumstances of the show are grounded in realistic situations, Baruchel acknowledged that trying to explain what the comedy is doing can be quite difficult.

FXX is launching MAN SEEKING WOMAN, a new (insane/hilarious) comedy, tonight at 10:30 PM, and it’s unlike anything on television. Sure, the series — which is based off of Simon Rich’s book “The Last Girlfriend on Earth: And Other Love Stories” — tells the story of a man re-entering the dating world, but how many other shows would have the man going on a date with a literal troll? Or have the man’s ex-girlfriend start dating Hitler? (Yes, that Hitler.)
I sat down with MAN SEEKING WOMAN creator Rich to talk about the adaptation of his book for television, the insane things to come (aliens and Japanese penis monsters), and more…
