ALMOST HUMAN has spent much of the first few episodes focusing on Kennex and Dorian — and their blossoming partnership — but a different character will get their time in the spotlight during next Monday’s brand new episode: Mackenzie Crook’s Rudy.
ALMOST HUMAN Exclusive Video: Behind-the-Scenes of ‘Skin’

ALMOST HUMAN made its time period debut last night with “Skin,” an episode that found Kennex and Dorian dealing with sexbots that were genetically spruced up with real (human) DNA. And while sexbots are OK in 2048, stealing human DNA to make them more lifelike is so not kosher, and our team was called in to shut things down. (Man, it’s crazy to think what kind of problems we may have to deal with in the future!)
In this exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette from “Skin,” you can get a glimpse of how they filmed the big takedown scene, with added insight from ALMOST HUMAN stars Michael Ealy (Dorian) and Michael Irby (Detective Paul), plus guest star Rowland Pidlubny (Yuri), and the show’s stunt coordinator, Scott Nicholson.

There are approximately one million new shows debuting this season*, and it’s going to get difficult to keep track of them all.
To help you out, for every new show, I’m going to basically create a hub of info on the day of the premiere — pilot photos, my quick take on the pilot (or what I’ve seen so far), what’s been written about it so far, and when you can watch it.
Next up, ALMOST HUMAN…

Fox’s new drama, ALMOST HUMAN, is being billed as a futuristic buddy-cop show — and certainly the dynamic between Karl Urban’s John Kennex and Michael Ealy’s Dorian (an android) is a key part of the series — but there are also quite a few other talented people and intriguing relationships to get invested in.
Last month, reporters hit up the Vancouver set of ALMOST HUMAN where the cast gave a bit of a rundown of what viewers can expect from the various pairings…

We’re less than three weeks away from the debut of Fox’s new drama, ALMOST HUMAN (a “buddy-cop” show set 35 years in the future — where crime rates have risen and every cop is partnered with an android — from former FRINGE boss J.H. Wyman), and while we’ve given you an intro to Michael Ealy’s Dorian, it’s about time to meet some of the people who will be helping to solve these futuristic crimes, don’t you think?
“Richard Paul lives on the edge,” ALMOST HUMAN star Michael Irby previews of his character in the exclusive featurette below. “He won’t take a bribe, but if he needs to bend the rules a little bit to get that conviction or to get that arrest, he’ll do what he has to do. He kind of goes against the grain, which I think is great that they hired me, because that’s kind of how I live my life.”
Take a look at the video for more from Irby, including his take on life in the future, footage of the other characters snarking on Richard (and him throwing some shade of his own), and more…

There are a ton of procedurals on television these days — the good, the bad, the forgettable — but the new Fox drama, ALMOST HUMAN, is giving the genre its own little twist: it’s set in 2048, and in the future, law enforcement officials are paired up with android partners. (And since the series comes from former FRINGE showrunner J.H. Wyman, you can expect the future to be appropriately bizarre in all the right places.) Playing one of those androids — albeit a discontinued/bug-filled model whose big flaw is that he was made to feel — is Michael Ealy (Dorian), who has been a familiar face on television over the past few seasons, including starring in the USA Network series COMMON LAW.
I recently sat down with Ealy to get his take on playing an android, the show’s appeal, keeping up momentum, and more…
