ONCE UPON A TIME: Colin O’Donoghue and Edward Kitsis on the Appeal of Hook

ONCE UPON A TIME has introduced a whole batch of new characters since the show premiered in 2011, but few have prompted quite the reaction that Colin O’Donoghue’s Hook has.
“I’ve been on Twitter a lot and I knew they teased the character [at Comic-Con],” Donoghue told reporters on the Vancouver set late last year. “So that was a thing I was very aware of when my first episode was coming out, because obviously I knew there was an expectation there. I hope the fans aren’t disappointed with Hook and the way he’s been portrayed.”

Earlier this week, my friend/vodcast partner-in-crime Danielle Turchiano (from Made Possible By Pop Culture) and I once again put up a special version of our “We Have Thoughts” vodcast as we sat down to discuss some of our favorite moments from the TV season so far.
But we aren’t the type to only have a few opinions, so we decided to share some more bite-sized opinions about what’s going on in our favorite shows…

Comments Off on ONCE UPON A TIME: BROTHERS & SISTERS’ John Pyper-Ferguson to Guest Star
The news broke yesterday that 1600 PENN’s Benjamin Stockham was guest starring on ONCE UPON A TIME, and now we have a little more details on his storyline: ABC has confirmed that former BROTHERS & SISTERS star John Pyper-Ferguson will be guest-starring with Stockham in episode 17.
According to EW.com (who was first to report the casting news), Pyper-Ferguson will be playing Ben, “a widower who wants nothing more than to help his young son heal from the loss of his mother.”
Any ideas of what fairytale characters these two may be playing?
ONCE UPON A TIME airs Sundays at 8 PM on ABC.

ONCE UPON A TIME: Benjamin Stockham to Guest Star

Comments Off on ONCE UPON A TIME: Benjamin Stockham to Guest Star
ONCE UPON A TIME continues its parade of season 2 guest stars, and this latest piece of casting is very intriguing: ABC has confirmed that 1600 PENN star Benjamin Stockham will guest star in an upcoming episode of the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (who was first to report the casting), Stockham will play Owen, “a precocious, strong-willed kid who isn’t afraid to speak his mind — but his free-spirited, lively personality is all a facade, as he’s secretly dealing with the tragic death of his mother.”
Of course, with OUAT, even guest spots are rarely simple. Do you think Stockham might be playing a character we’ve yet to meet? (Someone from Hook’s past, perhaps?) Or do you think he might be a younger version of a character we already know?
ONCE UPON A TIME airs Sundays at 8 PM on ABC.

In its two seasons, ONCE UPON A TIME has given us a fair amount of backstory for many of its characters, but tonight’s episode will more fully dive into one whom we’ve only started to really know this year — Dr. Whale/Frankenstein!
I spoke with ONCE UPON A TIME showrunner Edward Kitsis at the recent ABC winter press tour party, and he teased — with a bit of help from co-showrunner Adam Horowitz — a bit of what’s to come from Whale, Snow/Charming, the returns of Neal, the Giant, Bae, and if there’s pressure to make sure the end of season 2 ends as strongly as the first year did…

Hook’s quest for revenge took a dangerous turn in Sunday’s episode of ONCE UPON A TIME as he non-fatally shot Belle…but the result of the injury caused her to step outside of the town boundaries and lose her memories.
So what’s next? Take a look at some photos from this Sunday’s episode, “In the Name of the Brother”…

Top 13 TV Shows of 2012

Once again, I need to start off my list with a caveat: I’m behind on some quality shows. So yes, there may be some amazing television not listed here, but I’m not going to pretend to love a show that gets universal praise just to do it. I love what I love and I certainly watch enough television to speak about a whole lot of shows I do watch. And heck, this list expanded twice (went from 10 shows to 12 until I ultimately settled on 13), and if I had let myself think about it more, it’s likely I could have added another two shows (or 20).
So, with that being said, here are my top 13 television shows of 2012 in descending order…

ONCE UPON A TIME is no stranger to flashbacks and origin stories, but it seems like in 2013, the series is going to go further than it ever has: ABC confirms that Rose McGowan has signed on to guest star as a younger version of Cora. (Who is played currently by Barbara Hershey.) Deadline was first to break the news.
There is no word yet on when — or why — we’ll first meet young Cora, but ONCE UPON A TIME returns from its winter hiatus on Sunday, January 6, 2013.
What are you hoping to see from a young Cora?

The full line-up will be announced January 9, 2013, but odds are good we’ll get at least a few more shows announced before then.

As a television nerd (I know, I hide it so well), one of the biggest bummers is when I see absolutely gorgeous art made for television shows, but no way to obtain it in real life. Sure, you can save something on your computer or print out a terrible copy, but when key art or cast photos are gorgeous, sometimes you just want a nicer version.
Enter: ABC.
ABC is releasing a limited number of prints from ONCE UPON A TIME, CASTLE, and REVENGE over at officialABCprints.com, and the shots they chose are really so gorgeous…

Comments Off on ONCE UPON A TIME: Ginnifer Goodwin on Shooting the Emotional (And Complicated) Reunion in ‘Into the Deep’
ONCE UPON A TIME staged an emotional reunion last night as Snow and Charming finally saw each other after spending most of the season torn apart in different worlds. The only catch? They were in a fire-filled dream state.
And while it might have been a bit heartbreaking for fans of the duo to witness, it turns out it wasn’t that easy to film, either.
“It was a really hard scene to film with Josh [Dallas (Charming/David)] because [I] have never filmed anything like this in my life,” Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow/Mary Margaret) told reporters on the Vancouver set. “We filmed everything together — and I mean from every angle — and then we filmed again everything, each of us, from the front, and then each of us, again, everything from the back so that we could be made translucent depending on the camera angle.”

There have been no shortage of LOST homages on ONCE UPON A TIME, and in this Sunday’s brand new episode, the ABC series is bringing on LOST fan favorite Jorge Garcia in a key role: he’s the giant at the top of the beanstalk!
To celebrate the occasion, I spoke with Garcia about reuniting with OUAT co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, working with green screens, what cast member he wants to work with, and more…
