HBO’s SHARP OBJECTS (premiering Sunday at 9/8c), based on the 2006 novel by Gillian Flynn, marks two milestones for series star Amy Adams: a return to television (her last part was an arc on THE OFFICE as Katy) and her first time producing a project.
“I’m a big fan of Gillian’s; I’ve read all of her novels,” Adams told reporters (in the video below) before the ATX panel honoring the series. Executive producing the limited series was “something I wanted to move toward anyway. To bring [Emmy-winning director] Jean-Marc [Vallée] onboard, and be part of the casting process, and part of the tone on-set, it made a huge difference to me in how powerful I felt in the world.”

The eight-part drama—based on Gillian Flynn’s twisted 2006 novel—follows reporter Camille Preaker (Adams), who returns to her hometown to cover the murders of two young girls. But coming home has its own complications, including Camille’s reunion with her estranged family.
SHARP OBJECTS also stars Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Madison Davenport. Marti Noxon and Flynn wrote the series, with Noxon showrunning. BIG LITTLE LIES’ director Jean-Marc Vallée helmed all eight hours.
