LIMITLESS: Heather Kadin on Bradley Cooper’s Involvement, and Why It’s ‘SLEEPY HOLLOW 2.0’

Many of the new shows next season are based on familiar properties, but the new CBS drama, LIMITLESS (based on the 2011 film starring Bradley Cooper), is in the rare position of actually having an actor from the original project attached to the series. (Cooper is an executive producer on the CBS series, in addition to his appearance in the pilot.)

And though Cooper’s involvement with the pilot was known (and heavily teased in the trailer), CBS boss Nina Tassler raised a few eyebrows when she said he’d actually recur on the series. LIMITLESS executive producer Heather Kadin is a bit more realistic about what that might mean, given his very busy schedule.

SLEEPY HOLLOW: Heather Kadin Previews Season 3’s Big Bad, Mining Abbie/Ichabod’s Relationship, and More

While we’re still months out from SLEEPY HOLLOW returning to our television screens, the writers are currently hard at work crafting the upcoming third season. And though the second season went through a few rough spots, the writers are aiming to go back to what worked, versus trying to completely reinvent the show.

“I don’t think it should feel as much as changes, as a return to what we loved in season 1,” SLEEPY HOLLOW executive producer Heather Kadin shared. “Obviously there are changes in the sense Katrina’s not there, Henry’s not there, Irving’s not there. But we really want to bring back the fun in the relationship between Abbie and Crane.”

“I think the big focus is going to be, how do we get back to what people love?” she continued. “How do we give Abbie a real journey? How do we give Crane a real journey? How are those things both independent and complimentary of one another? And we also have to expand the world, so what are we saying about Sleepy Hollow as a place, as a mythology, but also telling closed-ended stories?”

Though there were indications earlier this year SLEEPY HOLLOW might end up more episodic, Kadin indicated there shouldn’t be any sort of drastic shift coming.

With no X FACTOR or UTOPIA in sight, Fox is sans any huge reality blocks for the start of the upcoming season.

That also means that aside from the Sunday lineup — which is staying untouched — only GOTHAM, EMPIRE, and BONES are remaining in the same spots they occupied for the 2014-2015 season. (And NEW GIRL is off the schedule until January.)

SLEEPY HOLLOW: Orlando Jones Won’t Be in Season 3

SLEEPY HOLLOW: Orlando Jones. 2014 Fox Broadcasting Co. CR: David Johnson/FOX

SLEEPY HOLLOW has lost yet another cast member: Orlando Jones (Frank Irving) won’t return for the upcoming third season, Variety is reporting. (Reps for the show have yet to respond to a request for comment. Update, 1:12 PM: Fox has no comment on the report.)

The show has undergone a massive overhaul in recent months. Not only were Katia Winter’s Katrina and John Noble’s Henry written out, but the series also lost its showrunner, Mark Goffman. (Clifton Campbell was named SLEEPY’s new showrunner when the show was renewed for season 3.)

That leaves only Tom Mison (Ichabod), Nicole Beharie (Abbie), and Lyndie Greenwood (Jenny) signed on for SLEEPY HOLLOW season 3.

Irving’s fate was very much up in the air for much of season 2, as he, unwillingly, signed away his soul to Henry, and then “died.” But by the end of season 2, he was whole, and seemed to be a part of the team.

It’s been a month since SLEEPY HOLLOW ended its second season, and in that time, the show has been renewed for a third season and nabbed a new showrunner.

“There was a lot of concern from viewers about season 2 — that it had drifted away from [what made it special in] season 1,” SLEEPY HOLLOW star Tom Mison (Ichabod) acknowledged. “A choice was made, a path was taken, to explore certain aspects of these characters. And we’ve done that. We’ve got to know them through these circumstances, and now these circumstances are over, and now we’ll explore a different part of them, and they’ll have a different quest, a different journey.”

While the show’s renewal was in jeopardy, fans rallied to support it, including pushing the hashtag #RenewSleepyHollow on Twitter — a fact that was noticed by Mison.
