SUPERSTORE‘s excellent third season made major moves on-screen and off, as several cast members took on expanded roles beyond their characters: America Ferrera (Amy) helmed her second episode of the series; Ben Feldman (Jonah) made his directorial debut; and Lauren Ash (Dina) wrote her first installment of the NBC comedy, “Gender Reveal.”
Ash—whose Dina was at the center of the episode’s botched gender reveal—looks back at penning her first episode for SUPERSTORE, and how her own background as a writer/improv performer assisted the process.

Attention, Cloud 9 shoppers (um, viewers): Thursday’s SUPERSTORE finale is nearly here, and major things are going down.
“A big town hall is happening,” SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer previews of the episode titled, appropriately, “Town Hall.” “We finally meet the CEO [played by Brian Howe] who is coming to the store.”
While initially there is excitement (at least from Glenn and Dina) about their store hosting the important meeting, things quickly take a turn. “The group realizes that they can’t talk about everything—certain topics are off-limits, including Myrtle,” Spitzer teases. “They start to learn that Myrtle was fired [for questionable reasons]. So it’s our group using the opportunity to see if they can get her job back.”

SUPERSTORE is ending its third year with a global event…albeit in a very SUPERSTORE-y way.
In the SUPERSTORE season finale, the St. Louis-based Cloud 9 hosts a company-wide Town Hall (streamed online for the other branches), which gives the employees the chance to ask questions to the CEO. But Jonah (Ben Feldman) and Amy (America Ferrera) realize something may be amiss, and do a bit of digging.

SUPERSTORE: Justin Spitzer Teases a Visit to ‘Target’

Comments Off on SUPERSTORE: Justin Spitzer Teases a Visit to ‘Target’
SUPERSTORE is going to a brave new world in Thursday’s episode: Target.
“We’re going to find out that somebody takes a job at Target,” SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer teases. “That drives Glenn crazy. For him, it feels like a betrayal. There’s a conversation early on [about] how the person who works there, now [Target will] know all our secrets. [He thinks] it would be like if someone on a football team went to an opposing football team.”
Outside of visiting a real-world location, the episode also marks an unexpected first for the series—product placement. “People on Twitter and various comments online think our show is all product placement; that we’re a sellout and will whore ourselves out for any product,” Spitzer says with a laugh. “I think we’ve never actually done it before. We’ve always been happy to, as long as it doesn’t feel like a commercial. We do have that ability with the show [due to the products in the background] but this is the one that finally worked out, which was a surprise for us. If you asked me what I thought the last company that would want to do product placement on our show was, it was Target.”

Comments Off on GOOD GIRLS and SUPERSTORE Bosses on the Upcoming Quasi-Crossover
The worlds of NBC’s GOOD GIRLS and SUPERSTORE collide starting this week.
GOOD GIRLS’ Beth (Christina Hendricks), Ruby (Retta), and Annie (Mae Whitman)—who have found themselves taking drastic (criminal) steps to provide for their families—visit a Detroit-based Cloud 9 for a pivotal, ongoing, job in Monday’s episode of the drama. (Cloud 9 is the big-box chain store where the NBC comedy is set; the SUPERSTORE location is in St. Louis.)
Cloud 9 has appeared outside of SUPERSTORE in the past (it popped up on THE MINDY PROJECT), but this quasi-crossover has a special connection: SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer and GOOD GIRLS creator Jenna Bans are married.

SUPERSTORE, one of the best comedies currently on television, threw grenades into multiple relationships in last week’s episode.
In “Safety Training,” Amy’s (America Ferrera) attempt to befriend Kelly (Kelly Stables)—AKA Jonah’s (Ben Feldman) new girlfriend—backfired when she took credit for Kelly improperly hanging signs and was forced into safety training. To get Amy out of it, Dina (Lauren Ash) planned on playing footage of Kelly’s work mistake…and instead played a mishmash of footage which included Amy and Jonah’s kiss during last season’s tornado.
Meanwhile, Mateo (Nico Santos) was injured by a falling sign, which helped out. After he kept turning down corporate’s offer for injury compensation, finally Jeff (Michael Bunin), his ex/the store’s distract manager, insisted on giving him money. But Mateo finally admitted he was undocumented and his inability to share that with Jeff was the real reason they broke up.
So where does the show go next? SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer shared a few teases about what’s in store. Read more

It’s a SUPERSTORE free-for-all this Thursday when Glenn (Mark McKinney) and Dina (Lauren Ash) offer amnesty to the Cloud 9 employees—and naturally, people take advantage of the intriguing offer.
Elsewhere, poor Jonah (Ben Feldman) and Amy (America Ferrera) may be hoping for amnesty of their own. After their tornado-inspired kiss (in the season 2 finale) was revealed via surveillance footage, their colleagues have a lot of questions about their relationship.

When Amy (America Ferrera) tries to befriend Kelly (Kelly Stables) in Thursday’s new episode of SUPERSTORE, things go hilariously wrong. Complicating matters? Amy just confessed to Dina (Lauren Ash) that she has a crush on Kelly’s boyfriend, Jonah (Ben Feldman).
In addition to one Cloud 9 employee getting injured—which also jeopardizes an important secret—Amy also finds herself back in safety training. And though it is a mid-season episode, it’s a particularly big installment for the delightful comedy; make sure to either watch it live or add a few minutes to your recording, because you won’t want to miss the end.
