A TO Z at TCA: Ben Queen and Cristin Milioti on Achieving ‘Genuine Chemistry’

When a series revolves around a couple in a relationship, one of the most important things to get right is the costars’ chemistry. And while some actors have to work to get things on track, for A TO Z costars Cristin Milioti and Ben Feldman, the sparks were there from the start.
“When they got together in the room to actually do the network test, they had literally met each other an hour before, and it was real electric,” A TO Z creator Ben Queen told reporters during the show’s Television Critics Association press tour panel. “You could see it. There was real genuine chemistry between these two that I’d been told that this thing existed, and it’s real.”

Comments Off on Tim Kring on HEROES REBORN: ‘All of My Attention is Focused on DIG’
HEROES creator Tim Kring has been hard at work on various other projects since the NBC series came to an end, and his latest piece of work is USA Network’s new event series, DIG, which he co-created with HOMELAND’s Gideon Raff.
But since Kring has also been announced as being a part of NBC’s upcoming HEROES REBORN, during DIG’s Television Critics Association press tour panel, he was asked about the progress of the event series.
CONSTANTINE: The Producers Talk About Lucy Griffiths’ Exit, Casting Angélica Celaya as Zed

Comments Off on CONSTANTINE: The Producers Talk About Lucy Griffiths’ Exit, Casting Angélica Celaya as Zed
CONSTANTINE underwent a bit of a shakeup this past week when it was revealed that Lucy Griffiths (Liv) was exiting the NBC series and the search was on for a new female lead.
During the show’s Television Critics Association press tour panel, CONSTANTINE executive producer Daniel Cerone admitted the character simply didn’t work when they sat down to plan their season-long arc for the show.
“Pilots are great because they’re a bit of a litmus test and you get to see what works and what doesn’t,” Cerone told reporters during the panel. “Liv is a great character, she’s very wide-eye, she’s very reactive…we felt a bit hamstrung by her [limits], frankly.”
NBC at TCA: Bob Greenblatt on the Status of HEROES REBORN

Comments Off on NBC at TCA: Bob Greenblatt on the Status of HEROES REBORN
NBC announced in February that they would be bringing back HEROES at some point in the near future with an event series, HEROES REBORN, but despite securing the return of original series star Jack Coleman (HRG), the time frame for when HEROES REBORN will actually be televised remains up in the air.
And, unfortunately, NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt couldn’t shed (much) light after his NBC exec session during the Television Critics Association press tour.
NBC at TCA: Bob Greenblatt on the Future of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT

Comments Off on NBC at TCA: Bob Greenblatt on the Future of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT
For LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT fans, the semi-late renewal of the series came as a bit of a stress — especially since the mothership was abruptly canceled in 2010 with no proper resolution/intended series finale.
After NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt participated in the NBC exec session during the Television Critics Association press tour, I asked him how important it was to end the franchise — eventually — on the right note.

Comments Off on STARZ to Split OUTLANDER’s First Season, Release the Series Premiere Early
STARZ will make the pilot for their new series, OUTLANDER, available on August 2nd via “multiple television and online platforms nationwide,” a full week before its official August 9th launch.
“We’ve heard from fans the world over who are anxiously awaiting to see how we’ve brought Claire and Jamie to life in what may possibly be the most highly anticipated series in Starz history,” said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht prior to the company’s presentation at the Summer Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour. “Our ‘Outlander’ sampling strategy serves the dual purpose of giving early access to the series premiere for those fans thirsting to watch it as soon as possible, as well as providing a vehicle that introduces the STARZ experience to prospective new subscribers who are eager to learn all about this great new series.”
Additionally, OUTLANDER’s 16-episode first season will be split into two parts: the first half of the season will air through September 27, and the second half is currently scheduled to air in early 2015.
Will you be checking out OUTLANDER’s premiere early?

Comments Off on El Rey Renews MATADOR
MATADOR, the new spy thriller from Roberto Orci, has been picked up for a second season, El Rey Network announced during its Television Critics Association press tour session.
The series — which bows on July 15th — follows Tony “Matador” Bravo, a CIA officer whose cover involves him masquerading as a professional soccer player.
“When Roberto first told me his concept for MATADOR, I knew immediately that it had to have a home on El Rey,” Robert Rodriguez, El Rey Network’s Founder and Chairman, said in a statement. “This show exceeded every possible expectation we had in terms of great storytelling, incredible action and unique characters.”
“Working with Robert and El Rey has been such a unique experience,” Orci added. “We’ve been given enormous creative freedom and have delivered the show exactly as we envisioned. We have so much story left to tell and thank El Rey and Robert for their unending support for a show that celebrates a new kind of hero on television.”

MATADOR officially debuts on El Rey Network on Tuesday, July 15th at 9 PM.

Right now, the cast of WGN America’s first original scripted series, SALEM, is hard at work filming the show’s freshman season. And while the show doesn’t launch for another two months, in the time leading up to its April 20th series premiere, I’ll have some interviews with the show’s creative forces going up to tease what you can expect from the series.
Up next? SALEM star Shane West (John), who went basically right from NIKITA’s final season to this new role.
I spoke with West about why he was drawn to SALEM, his new role, working with his castmates in Louisiana, and the end of NIKITA…

Comments Off on LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: NBC Boss Robert Greenblatt on Cast Changes and the Show’s Future, Plus Dick Wolf Teases a CHICAGO PD Crossover
LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT has had its share of shakeups over the past few seasons, but the past few months have led to two mainstays departing the squad: Sergeant Munch (Richard Belzer) and Captain Cragen.
“I think the cast member changes have been the natural attrition of a show that’s 15 years old,” Robert Greenblatt told reporters after his executive session.. “I think it’s been great to bring new cast members into the show as well.”
But just because the show is down two people, Greenblatt said fans shouldn’t expect any new faces to suddenly appear any time soon.
