THE VOICE top 8 found themselves facing quite test on the Monday, December 5 episode of the singing competition: doing a duet (with a fellow contestant) of a Whitney Houston song.

“When they told us that we were going to be covering Whitney, I said, ‘No, we’re not. We’re not doing that,'” Team Gwen’s Justin Aaron jokingly recalled to reporters in the video below. “People can sing Whitney…[but] there’s only one Whitney.”

THE VOICE’s Team Blake Talk About Being on His Penultimate Season

THE VOICE has had a impressive roster of coaches throughout its 22 seasons, but one person has been a mainstay in the big red chairs: Blake Shelton. (Host/executive producer Carson Daly has also been with the series since season 1.)

Throughout the past 11-plus years, Shelton has coached hundreds of contestants, with eight winning it all. And now, with Shelton leaving the series next year (when season 23 concludes), his current team members are very cognizant about how special it is to be a part of his team.

THE VOICE: Taryn Papa on Winning the Four-Way Knockout

With her four-way Knockout victory, THE VOICE’s Taryn Papa has a potential unexpected edge as the Top 17 gets cut to become the Top 9: She’s the only remaining contestant whose fans have kept her on the show through voting. (Everyone else was picked by their coaches to make it through to the live rounds.)

After Monday’s performance, Papa admitted to reporters she hadn’t considered that yet. “The only thing I’ve thought about is the fact that my fans have already voted means I don’t have to answer all my DMs on how to vote again,” she joked in the video below. “That was really good because that’s something that’s been blowing my phone up. I haven’t really thought about that [potential edge]. That’s a really interesting.”

The Team Blake member was also clearly stunned by her victory on Monday night,  and she shared it didn’t exactly cease when she got off-camera. “I had to collect myself,” she admitted. “One of the production assistants was like, ‘Get it together. You have to sing…you have to be professional now,’ because I was [hyperventilating.]”
