THE AFTER, THE X-FILES creator Chris Carter’s new series for Amazon, will not move forward with its planned first season, Variety reports.
The drama — which focused on a group of strangers who bonded during a mysterious event — was originally set to start production on the rest of season 1 in October 2014. (The pilot debuted last February on Amazon’s streaming site.)
In a statement to Variety, Amazon VP Roy Price confirmed they had parted with the series, “We have decided to not move forward with THE AFTER. We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts.”
THE AFTER had been set to star Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Sharon Lawrence, Louise Monot, Jania Lee Ortiz, and Adrian Pasdar.

Amazon has officially ordered four of it newest adult pilots, and two of its children pilots to series, as well as renewing ALPHA HOUSE for season 2, the studio announced today.
“We had a tremendous response to Amazon Studios’ latest pilots—in fact, double the number of customers watched these pilots compared to our first season and they posted thousands of heartfelt reviews with pleas for us to continue these shows,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios in a statement. “Now the fun really begins—Amazon will be working with some of the most talented casts and creators in the business to bring six new shows exclusively to tens of millions of Prime members worldwide. These series, along with our summer kids programming, will give customers a lot of viewing choices.”
“We are delighted that ALPHA HOUSE is a winner among Prime members,” continued Price. “More than 6,000 customers gave the show a perfect five-star rating and have posted glowing, witty and compelling reviews asking for a second season. We’re excited to begin production and keep the story about these senators alive.”
