THE CARRIE DIARIES: Amy B. Harris Teases ‘This is the Time’

Comments Off on THE CARRIE DIARIES: Amy B. Harris Teases ‘This is the Time’
It’s prom night for THE CARRIE DIARIES, and as you’d expect, it’s a very important time for Carrie Bradshaw and her friends.
“The episode is about traditions and rights of passages, and prom, obviously, for so many kids is that,” THE CARRIE DIARIES boss Amy B. Harris shared on the set of the hour, “This is the Time.” “Last year, [we didn’t go big] because I wanted this senior prom to be the one. So last year was the prom that didn’t happen: Carrie and Sebastian broke up; Maggie outed Walt. Just small little stories of normal prom mayhem.”
“I knew I wanted — although some of them are dating and in relationships — I knew I wanted [this episode] to be our foursome at prom,” she continued. “Sort of how we first met them, supporting each other in the pilot, this moment is about the four of them; it’s not about their dates or their love lives. So, it was fun to celebrate that.”

It’s Valentine’s Day on THE CARRIE DIARIES, but it won’t be all hearts and roses for our favorite characters. In fact, a few relationships will face some of their biggest tests yet.
“Well, I think this week’s episode is obviously a big one for Walt and Bennet, with a lot of dramatic underpinnings,” THE CARRIE DIARIES creator Amy B. Harris teased. “For me, I think using Valentine’s Day as a place to expose the conventions of love often bump up against the realities of love, was a very exciting for me with all the storylines, but obviously, for Walt and Bennet, this is a big one. And it’s something we’ve been very eager to lead up to, which is if you’re by the gay community in New York in the ’80s, the AIDS epidemic is obviously a part of that universe.”
As Walt and Bennet deal with life-or-death issues, Carrie and Sebastian struggle to figure out their own future, as Mr. Kydd ponders whether to get into business with a young Tony Hawk.

THE CARRIE DIARIES has shaken things up in season 2 for Carrie with the introductions of her new friend,Samantha Jones, and Carrie’s new boyfriend, Weaver. And while the series has always had heart, I don’t know about you, but for me, it feels like everything has been taken to the next level this season.

Throughout its two seasons, THE CARRIE DIARIES has often sprinkled little bits of foreshadowing of how this version of Carrie Bradshaw will grow up to become the woman viewers met on SEX AND THE CITY. And in this Friday’s brand new episode “The Safety Dance,” the show lays out another important first for our girl: she decides to write about sex.
Fortunately — or unfortunately, as the case may be — she has Samantha and Larissa to turn to for a bit of mentorship on the subject, and…it goes pretty much how you’d expect it to.
Check out an exclusive clip from “The Safety Dance” of Carrie sharing her newest writing idea with the ladies, and their hilarious reaction to it…
