Marisa’s Top 14 Episodes of 2014

Comments Off on Marisa’s Top 14 Episodes of 2014

For my top episodes of the year, I did something different this year: I didn’t let myself choose anything from my top shows of 2014. There are certainly shows there that could (and maybe should) have installments listed here, but considering how much television I watch, I wanted to expand the field of shows versus just going over (again) why I loved the top shows.

The following episodes aren’t ranked (they’re listed alphabetically), but I did note which one would have been number one if I had gone that route…

THE FLASH: Mark Hamill to Reprise The Trickster

Comments Off on THE FLASH: Mark Hamill to Reprise The Trickster

THE FLASH has recruited another star from the original CBS series: STAR WARS’ Mark Hamill.

The-Flash-The-Trickster-Hamill — who played James Jesse (AKA The Trickster) in the ’90s FLASH series (a photo of his first go-round as The Trickster to the left)  — will bring a “new interpretation” of the role to The CW’s hit. In THE FLASH, “The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps.” Hamill will appear in the 17th episode of THE FLASH’s first season.

“Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of THE FLASH,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement to HitFix, which was first to report the casting news. “Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes! We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!”

Are you excited to see Hamill on THE FLASH?

THE FLASH airs Tuesdays at 8 PM and ARROW airs Wednesdays at 8 PM on The CW.

THE FLASH’s Barry Allen isn’t the only one who has had his life change by his big changes — Joe West, Barry’s long-time father figure, is having to face the reality that he (accidentally) put an innocent man in jail (Barry’s father, for the murder of Barry’s mother)…and he’s trying to balance righting that wrong with his job, taking care of the people he loves, plus dealing with the influx of Metahumans.

On the show’s Vancouver set, Jesse L. Martin (Joe) spoke with reporters about Joe’s commitment to helping Barry, and more…

roger-howarth-150THE FLASH’s Iris is getting a mentor: a rep for the series has confirmed that GENERAL HOSPITAL star Roger Howarth will recur as Mason Bridge, a reporter from the Central City Picture News. However, things won’t be so easy for Iris when Mason starts to investigate Dr. Wells. (And as of now, only viewers know how dangerous that could be.)

Howarth — who has also appeared on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, AS THE WORLD TURNS, and THE FLASH executive producer Greg Berlanti’s former show, DAWSON’S CREEK — will first appear as Mason in episode 11.

Deadline first reported the casting.

THE FLASH: Tom Cavanagh on the Mysterious Dr. Wells

Comments Off on THE FLASH: Tom Cavanagh on the Mysterious Dr. Wells

flash-tom-cavanagh-featured

For as many fun things that THE FLASH set up with last week’s series premiere, one of the biggest questions most viewers had coming out of the hour was what the heck was going on with Dr. Harrison Wells?

At first, Dr. Wells appeared to simply be the S.T.A.R. Labs director, who’s helping Barry partially as an attempt to salvage his research. But the final moments of the opening episode revealed that Wells had a secret room — where he had a holographic newspaper from 2024 that states that The Flash has disappeared.

I sat down with Tom Cavanagh (Dr. Wells) to get his take on where the character fits in with Team Flash, how much he knew about the character when he agreed to join the show, and more…

Comments Off on THE FLASH: Andrew Kreisberg on the Metahumans Barry Allen Will Meet

flash-thumb When ARROW premiered on The CW in 2012, the series had a set structure: the series devoted part of its time to Oliver’s flashbacks, and his present-day time was split between him readjusting to life with his loved ones and taking down names from his list of people who had failed the city.

For THE FLASH, things are slightly different — thanks to the S.T.A.R. labs explosion, a whole host of people (with both good and bad intentions) are struggling with new powers — that progress at varying speeds — so Barry Allen won’t be able to map out an exact game plan. And some “normal” folks will have advanced technology at their disposal, making them dangerous in unplanned ways.

I sat down with THE FLASH (and ARROW) co-creator Andrew Kreisberg to talk about how the structures of the show vary, how he’s balancing his work on both series, and more…

Comments Off on THE FLASH Casts Original Series Star Amanda Pays for Guest Spot

THE FLASH is bringing in another familiar face to the new CW series, a rep for the show has confirmed: 1990 THE FLASH star Amanda Pays. (Original THE FLASH star John Wesley Shipp is appearing on The CW version as Barry Allen father.)

Unlike Shipp (who played Barry in the original series), Pays is set to reprise her role of Tina McGee on CW’s version of THE FLASH.

“When we decided to bring Tina onto our version of THE FLASH, who better to get than the amazing actress who originated the part?” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Variety, who was first to report the casting. “Like with John Wesley Shipp, we are so proud and excited to have another actor from the original series join us on our new adventures for Barry Allen.”

Pays is set to appear in episode 9 of the show’s freshman series.

Are you excited to see Pays on THE FLASH?

THE FLASH premieres Tuesday, October 7th at 8 PM on The CW.
