THE FOLLOWING’s Ryan Hardy can’t catch a break.
After losing his twisted “soulmate,” Joe, Ryan (a recovering alcoholic) drank a bit of his sorrows away — much to the chagrin of his girlfriend, Gwen. And in this exclusive clip from tonight’s hour, “Demons,” Gwen has had enough of his angst, and decides to leave Ryan.

THE FOLLOWING Exclusive Sneak Peek: Producers, Michael Ealy Tease Theo and Ryan Meeting

Things are heating up for THE FOLLOWING’s newest big bad, Theo.
In the exclusive video preview of this Monday’s new hour, “Flesh & Blood,” (below) co-showrunner Alexi Hawley shared, “Episode 8 is a big moment in the hunt for Theo…and he ultimately ends up having to scramble to keep us away from him during the course of the episode.”
“He’s created this whole life that is sort of perfect,” co-showrunner Brett Mahoney added. “And that’s why he truly resents Ryan getting on to him. No one has really done this before.”
Additionally, we’ll get to see a bit of parallels between the two as they have to deal with pressures outside of the chase: Theo has to throw a party for his wife, while Ryan has to attend a dinner party with his girlfriend. But those external forces won’t compare to the real explosive moment of the hour: when Ryan and Theo have their first “meeting.”
“The episode where Ryan and Theo meet, that’s where the fireworks will begin,” Michael Ealy (Theo) teased. “It’s a smart chess match between the two.”
Check out the video for more teases, and a little glimpse at what’s to come…
THE FOLLOWING: Alexi Hawley Teases Season 3’s New Faces

THE FOLLOWING is shifting its focus from the Ryan Hardy/Joe Carroll cat-and-mouse game to a more Ryan-centric show in its third season.
With the loss of Joe and his followers as the season’s central Big Bad, the show is bringing in new new faces to stir up trouble. ALMOST HUMAN’s Michael Ealy will appear this season as Theo, whom the producers teased “can be different people in different lives, and it allows him to be anything he wants to be.” And kicking off the season, there is a new couple causing mayhem for Ryan and the FBI.
THE FOLLOWING Bosses on a Ryan Hardy-Centric Season 3, Michael Ealy’s New Big Bad, and More

We’re just three weeks away from the two-hour season premiere of THE FOLLOWING, and things are set to be a bit different when the show returns.
First of all, the Joe Carroll chapter of the series is over. While Carroll made it out alive (and James Purefoy’s Carroll will appear on the show) — thanks to an alternate ending not making the final cut — the focus of the show will shift more fully to Kevin Bacon’s Ryan Hardy. (And Ryan will have to contend with a new baddie this season.)
There’s also been a behind-the-scenes transition in showrunners, as THE FOLLOWING creator Kevin Williamson has handed over showrunner duties to a trio of show vets: writers/executive producers Brett Mahoney and Alexi Hawley, as well as director/executive producer Marcos Siega. (Williamson has been focused on CBS’ STALKER.)
I spoke with Mahoney and Hawley about the transition to showrunning THE FOLLOWING, “moving the center of the show,” why fans of THE FOLLOWING newbie Michael Ealy will be excited by the season, and more…

THE FOLLOWING’s Max and Mark couldn’t have ended the second season in more opposite ways: for Mark, he lost everything — his mother and twin brother, Luke, were killed, and he was on his own. (Sort of.) But Max found herself in a good spot — after she took out Luke (and Joe Carroll was officially placed under arrest), she and Mike finally acted on the chemistry that had been building all year.
But rarely do things stay the status quo on THE FOLLOWING. And since season 3 will kick off with a time jump, in the video below Jessica Stroup (Max) teased “really, really big things” are happening for the Mike/Max (one of which will be devastating for the duo), while Underwood previewed Mark having to hide in plain site, and emerging from the emotional disaster of the past year…

For two seasons, Ryan Hardy’s obsession with catching Joe Carroll (and the duo’s twisted relationship) drove THE FOLLOWING’s storytelling. But now, Joe has been recaptured — and won’t be escaping — while Ryan will be facing a brand new threat in season 3.
So how will the series handle the massive shift in the show’s dynamic? And why did they ultimately opt to keep Joe alive after filming an alternate ending where he was killed? After the show’s Comic-Con panel, director/executive producer Marcos Siega and new showrunner Jennifer Johnson spoke with reporters about that, how James Purefoy (Joe) handled being in the dark about not knowing his character’s fate, and more…

As THE FOLLOWING’s second season concludes with Monday’s “Forgive,” Ryan Hardy and Joe Carroll are put in an unfathomable position: they have to work together to save Claire from psycho twins Mark and Luke.
I spoke with THE FOLLOWING star James Purefoy (Joe) about the state of the convoluted relationship between Joe and Ryan, Joe’s reaction to Emma’s death, whether he knows how the season will end, and more…

THE FOLLOWING’s Ryan Hardy had his world rocked when his off-on love, Claire (who was also the ex-wife of Ryan’s foe, Joe Carroll), was killed by a member of Joe’s cult with a grudge against Ryan.
Of course, what viewers learned recently was that Claire wasn’t dead at all — she was hiding in WITSEC with her son and mother. And at the end of last week’s episode, “Freedom,” she talked her way into being allowed to see Ryan, and the duo finally came face-to-face. But after a year-plus of thinking she’s been dead, how is Ryan going to react to this news?
“It’s going to mean — I mean, look, what is he going to do?” THE FOLLOWING executive producer Marcos Siega pointed out. “There’s Carrie Cooke in his life. It’s a big deal [for Claire to return].”
