THE SIMPSONS: Harry Shearer Staying Put

Harry Shearer will remain with THE SIMPSONS after all.
Though Shearer seemed set to exit in May, Fox has confirmed the entire core voice cast will return for the upcoming two seasons.
Shearer — who voices Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Reverend Lovejoy, and Smithers, to name a few of his characters — has been a part of the show from the start. (In fact, the two-season renewal means the show will run to at least 625 episodes.)
Are you happy Shearer is staying with the show?

THE SIMPSONS was recently renewed for two seasons, but it may be continuing on without one of its most prolific voices.
Harry Shearer — who voices Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Reverend Lovejoy, and Smithers, to name a few of his characters — revealed in a series of tweets on Wednesday night that he will be exiting the show.

With no X FACTOR or UTOPIA in sight, Fox is sans any huge reality blocks for the start of the upcoming season.
That also means that aside from the Sunday lineup — which is staying untouched — only GOTHAM, EMPIRE, and BONES are remaining in the same spots they occupied for the 2014-2015 season. (And NEW GIRL is off the schedule until January.)

THE SIMPSONS Renewed for Two More Seasons

Comments Off on THE SIMPSONS Renewed for Two More Seasons
THE SIMPSONS has been renewed for two seasons, Fox announced. That will make it season 27 and 28 for the long-running animated series. (And 625 episodes!)
“I’ve outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and ‘McDreamy,’ because I have something they don’t: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction,” said Homer Simpson in a statement from Fox.
The comedy has had a big year: in addition to the renewal, FXX aired the “Every. Simpsons. Ever.” marathon; launched SIMPSONS WORLD — which boasts streaming on demand of every SIMPSONS episode, in addition to other fun goodies; aired crossovers with both FAMILY GUY and FUTURAMA; and the show took over the Hollywood Bowl for a SIMPSONS musical concert.

THE SIMPSONS to Air Fan-Made Pixel Opening Credits

Comments Off on THE SIMPSONS to Air Fan-Made Pixel Opening Credits
Television fans can be insanely creative when it comes to showing their love for their favorite shows, and three THE SIMPSONS fans from Australia — artists/animators Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon, and musician Jeremy Dower — are now seeing their project get incorporated into the show.
The three men recreated THE SIMPSONS’ opening sequence using pixel art, and the video went viral. THE SIMPSONS producers reached out to the men, and now those opening credits will be used before this Sunday’s brand new episode.
“This job was already great; now people are doing the work for us,” THE SIMPSONS showrunner Al Jean joked in a statement. “Thanks for 90 brilliant seconds Ivan, Paul and Jeremy.”

Comments Off on Marisa’s Top 14 Episodes of 2014
For my top episodes of the year, I did something different this year: I didn’t let myself choose anything from my top shows of 2014. There are certainly shows there that could (and maybe should) have installments listed here, but considering how much television I watch, I wanted to expand the field of shows versus just going over (again) why I loved the top shows.
The following episodes aren’t ranked (they’re listed alphabetically), but I did note which one would have been number one if I had gone that route…
And have you seen Sarah and Kelly’s lists, too? Check out Sarah’s top shows and top episodes, as well as Kelly’s top shows and top episodes.
What was your favorite show this year?

The FAMILY GUY-THE SIMPSONS crossover wasn’t the only pop culture/animated series collision this season for the Simpsons family: in Sunday’s episode of THE SIMPSONS, the characters from FUTURAMA (which was also created by SIMPSONS creator Matt Groening) pop up to prevent the destruction of the future.
I spoke with THE SIMPSONS star Yeardley Smith (Lisa) about “Simpsorama,” and how her character is handling these visitors…

‘The Simpsons Guy’: Rich Appel and Steve Callaghan Tease the FAMILY GUY-THE SIMPSONS Crossover
September 28, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
Filed under #1 featured, Family Guy, The Simpsons
FAMILY GUY and THE SIMPSONS’ highly-anticipated crossover finally airs tonight, and while fans of the shows may have been waiting for this for years, there was a good reason to delay the Simpsons and Griffins from meeting: “You couldn’t do a crossover like this until FAMILY GUY had become an institution itself,” FAMILY GUY executive producer Rich Appel pointed out to a small group of reporters earlier this week.
And, yes, while “The Simpsons Guy” is a crossover hour, this is, technically, an episode of FAMILY GUY.
“It’s an episode of FAMILY GUY,” FAMILY GUY executive producer Steve Callaghan explained. “It’s a premiere of FAMILY GUY. And [THE SIMPSONS producers] very kindly, and generously let us invade Springfield.”
In “invading” Springfield, the crossover expanded far beyond the two central families meeting — a whole bunch of Springfield regulars pop up in “The Simpsons Guy.”
THE SIMPSONS: Al Jean on the Premiere Death and the Show’s Future

Comments Off on THE SIMPSONS: Al Jean on the Premiere Death and the Show’s Future
THE SIMPSONS will lose a character in tonight’s season 26 premiere, but showrunner Al Jean admitted on a recent conference call that the death “may have been a little overhyped.”
“That being said, I think it’s a wonderful episode and I think it works along the parameters we originally set out,” Jean shared. “I think that people will really like it.”
(For the record, the death was exactly who I thought it would be, and I wasn’t disappointed by how the show played it out.)
And while animated series have a little bit of flexibility in terms of bending reality — and FAMILY GUY infamously killed off and then revived Brian last season — Jean promised the death that occurs in “Clown in the Dumps” will stick.

There has been a lot of talk about what goes down in THE SIMPSONS’ 26th season premiere — in case you haven’t heard, a character will be killed off — and while the season premiere images don’t entirely spell it out, the combination of those plus the title (“Clown in the Dumps”) hint fairly strongly who will be kicking the bucket.

THE SIMPSONS at the Hollywood Bowl: Photos

Comments Off on THE SIMPSONS at the Hollywood Bowl: Photos
THE SIMPSONS took over the Hollywood Bowl this weekend, and when I had the chance to go to the show on Friday night, the experience was pretty magical.
As you might expect, the performances were incredible (my favorite numbers included the first public performance of “Happy Birthday, Lisa” by Kipp Lennon and SIMPSONS star Nancy Cartwright (Bart); Cartwright and fellow SIMPSONS star Yeardley Smith (Lisa) singing “Minimum Wage Nanny”; the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles’ medley (which included “Spider-Pig” and “Stonecutters Song”; and Hank Azaria’s (Apu) “Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart?”), but what was almost equally impressive was how much care was put into making the entire Hollywood Bowl SIMPSONS-friendly.
Not only were the ushers wearing Sideshow Bob hair (it was fabulously weird), and many of the women in the orchestra had on Marge wigs, but there was a SIMPSONS mural painted on one of the walls, there were cardboard cutouts of characters all over the Bowl (many with sayings appropriate for the weekend’s festivities), Duff “beer” was at the concession stand windows, and more. The attention to detail — and making the experience truly something fans would appreciate — was incredibly impressive.
I’m sure I missed a few of nerdy touches, but I took some photos of the things around the Bowl that stood out the most to me…
