After two weeks of Give Me My Remote readers nominating their television favorites from the past year, it’s time to vote for the 5th Annual GMMR TV Awards!

Most of the categories have five nominees, but due to ties, the number can vary per topic. (And, as a reminder, each category can only have two nominees per show, so only the top two vote-getters from any series moved forward to the voting round.)

Marisa’s Top 14 Shows of 2014

It was another great year for television, and to celebrate that, I made my list of the top shows in 2014.

As per usual, my annual disclaimer: I literally can’t watch every show, and so some shows that probably should be here (like TRANSPARENT) didn’t make the cut because I couldn’t catch up in time. (But on the bright side, I caught up on every show I name-checked last year as not being caught up on.)

FX Renews MARRIED and YOU’RE THE WORST — WORST Moving to FXX

YOU’RE THE WORST and MARRIED have been renewed, FX announced. Both shows will have 13-episode second seasons (up from their first-season 10 episodes), and YOU’RE THE WORST will transition over to FXX.

“We love these shows and the creative visions of Andrew Gurland of MARRIED and Stephen Falk of YOU’RE THE WORST,” said Nick Grad, co-President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, in a statement. “Both series have terrific ensemble casts and outstanding lead performances – Nat Faxon and Judy Greer in MARRIED, and Chris Geere and Aya Cash in YOU’RE THE WORST. These shows are honest, 360-degree looks at relationships and we’re excited to see how they evolve.”

YOU’RE THE WORST: Stephen Falk and Desmin Borges on Edgar’s PTSD

YOU’RE THE WORST — a great new FX comedy you should all be watching — is a show that lives in shades of grey. The characters might not be joyful good-doers, but they’re not, in actuality, the worst. Instead, they’re unapologetically themselves…which can make things difficult for the people around them.
