THE OFFICE Super Bowl Episode – Favorite Moments
February 1, 2009 by Kath Skerry
If you read my early review of the post-Super Bowl episode of THE OFFICE then you know I was a big fan! But I want to know what YOU think. Chime in during or after the episode and share YOUR favorite moments.
Here are some of my favorite moments… (and despite appearances NO these are not ALL the same scene)
The Cold Open
Brilliant! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this cold open. So many classic moments, but I think Angela throwing the cat up into the ceiling only to have it come crashing down might have been my favorite. Others include “the fire is shooting at us” and “Barack is President….you’re black”
Stanley Hudson’s Greatest Hits
Who doesn’t love a good Stanley freak out. I’m personally partial to when he rips Ryan a new one in the break room, but in general he’s pretty scary most of the time.
(More after the jump)
The Musical Stylings of Dunder Mifflin
Last night we got not one, but two music interludes. “Stayin’ Alive” and “What I Hate About You”. Which one is most likely to become your ring tone?
Hannibal Schrute
Are you kidding me? Dwight wearing the face of the dummy had me howling the first time I saw it. Sick and disgusting and absolutely Dwight Schrute.
The Michael Scott Roast
You just knew the roast wasn’t going to end well. Who was your favorite roaster? I’m going to go with Angela’s ‘You Might be Michael Scott’ and Pam’s ‘If it were an iPod it would be a shuffle!’. But you’ve gotta love…
Michael: I know where this is going.
Jim: Do you?
Michael: No.
Jim: Ok.
Jim and Pam: Soul mates
The sweetest and heaviest moment of the night was made all that much better by Andy’s misinterpretation. But seriously, where do I find MY Jim Halpert?
Boom. Roasted!
Michael: Jim – you’re 6’11 and you weight 90 lbs. Gumby has a better body than you. Boom. Roasted.
Here are two OFFICE Super Bowl spots (non-spoilerish – not from the episode)

M’lady… M’Tuna… 🙂
Kath, just like you promised, I pretty much fell even more in love with Jim Halpert. I was getting worried, especially right after she talked to her dad in the parking lot, but as soon as she came inside, it pretty much reminded me exactly why I can’t wait for Thursdays every week.
Jam aside, Andy’s roast song, and “M’lady. M’Tuna,” as Sara said, pretty much killed me.
The cold open was hilarious, so was the roast (loved Michael’s “roast” to everyone else, too). But I’m with Jaime in that I was worried about Jam, but was squeeing in the end with Pam saying that she and Jim are their each others love…
and yay for the new opening credits! Loved seeing everybody in it! 🙂
Definitely agree that the guest stars added nothing to this episode. They weren’t needed, this episode would have worked without them. Everything else about this episode was great. M’Lady, M’Tuna, too cute. I really do feel that Andy has been a great addition to the show. I even liked the longer opening credits. They also gave a good balance of Jam. It wasn’t too much which could have been easy to do to draw new fans in (like VM’s ads being all about LoVe when the show really wasn’t). For new watchers, you got a great dose of each character without anyone being totally overwhelming.
I cried twice…one time for Michael (I felt so bad for him as he stumbled off the stage at the roast) and when Pam told Jim why her dad was divorcing her mom (I love those Jam moments)!!!
The jokes at the roast did make me laugh, especially Pam’s!
Me likey the episode, in general. Dwight with the doll’s face on… so creepy! The guest starts… meh…
Kath, do you know if the credits was a one-time thing or if they’ll continue to be that way? Also, do you remember if anything changed from what you saw previously? 🙂
Loved the embedded clips…thanks Kath!
I liked the episode for the most part…lots of ups and down…but the funny parts were really funny. LOVED the ipod bit. I also loved how each character had to opportunity to shine.

Um, I missed the opening credits. Oops. They were new?
Yeah, basically all the clips for the original five were the same (actually, was BJ Novak even in them? I wasn’t paying attention at first, since I figured it was the same old opening as always), then all the other cast members were in it, too. Then they showed the clip from Money, of Jim and Pam kissing, and then it ended with the usual shot of Michael and his Dundies. I don’t know if it was just for the Superbowl episode, to show new viewers who was who, or if it’s permanent, but I really liked it.
Yeah they changed up the opening credits which i’m not sure about.
Awesome episode. Favorite moments:
Dwight Lecter. Michael feeding the nonexistent pidgins. Andy’s two musical performances. Kevin stealing from the vending machine while the building is burning around him.
I wish hulu would put it up so i could watch it again.
The show was brilliant, quite possibly my favorite this season (which as much as I love The Office, it has been slightly disappointing this season). Thank you for showing me why I love this show so much!! Dwight was priceless. I have to say that I was worried that they were going to fire Dwight and that he would be leaving. But then I left my pessimistic thoughts and went back to loving the show. Jam was perfect and made me cry a little.

LOL funny! I think this epi. ranks up there with Michael burning his foot on the Foreman episode! OMG Dwight with the Hannibal Lector mask had me laughing as the TV was off and I was trying to fall asleep. The cold open was awesome. Jam was perfect and just enough. Everyone of those charcaters held their own last night. The Office did not dissappoint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“And now for a man who deserves no introduction…Michael Scott!” lol! Perfect episode. I missed the new credits. I’ll have to go back and check them out.
LOVED this episode. Definitely one of the best ever. So many genius moments, all of which have been mentioned already by GMMR and other posters. I think the Cold Open was definitely my favorite, though.
And maybe I’m alone on this, but I actually really liked the fake pirated movie with Jack Black. I thought it perfectly skewered those types of schlocky, “important” Hollywood movies, especially with their perfect use of overplayed movie songs like “Have a Little Faith in Me.” And then Cloris slowly inching away from Jack Black in her stairway chair? “Put it in reverse! Reverse!” I thought it was pretty damn funny. Ah well.
I loved the episode. Definitely one of the best this season.
