Warm Up Those Vocal Chords, it’s Time for GLEE
May 19, 2009 by Kath Skerry
You’d be hard pressed to find anyone that hasn’t heard of Fox’s special preview of GLEE. The network is using tonight’s special preview event as a marketing/PR campaign for one of the most promising shows of the Fall. Get the buzz out early, give the folks a little taste and keep them wanting more. Basically Fox is like that drug deal hanging out on the corner, but instead of heroin they’re serving us an hour long comedy with song and dance numbers. I usually ‘just say no’, but one this one I’m already addicted.
I’ve watched the pilot 6 or 7 times by now. I’ve lauded the show to all my friends. Hell, I even listened to the music on my iPod on my way to work this morning. I’m ready to watch again tonight just so I can talk to you all about it. Yes, I’m excited.
But in the interest of full disclosure I must inform you that I am a life long gleeker. It’s true. From elementary school thru college, I was a hard core gleeker…and proud of it. I felt I needed to share this because GLEE is tailor made for me. I am the target audience. My dad, some of my guy friends…maybe not so much (well ok, some of my guy friends will absolutely love it). What I’m trying to say is that GLEE isn’t for everyone. The humor and charm are vastly appealing but I’m not expecting that everyone reading this will fall head over heels just because I did.
If you’re someone that has been intrigued by the promos and plan to watch tomorrow I would caution you to keep a level head. Despite some of the pre-air hype, GLEE isn’t going to solve all the issues plaguing our world. It’s not perfect, and I’m not pretending that it is. There’s been so much chatter about it that I feel expectations are a bit off the charts at this point. But I’m ok with knowing that different people respond to different things – isn’t it the beauty of being a loyal TV watcher?
GLEE is going to be a very special show to a lot of people. It’s going to be a show that people feel good about. GLEE is special in a way not another show on TV is. The music, the dancing, it’s uplifting. We need a little bit more uplifting from TV these days. Put my name on the list (be sure to put a gold star next to it) because I’m officially signed up for GLEE.
Check out the special preview event for GLEE tonight and then mark your calendars to watch the show when it premieres Wednesdays this Fall on Fox.
Are you excited? Will you be watching? I’m going to be online during the episode so feel free to Tweet me at www.twitter.com/gmmr

I’m SO unbelievably excited for this show. I’ve Twittered about the trailers, read the reviews, told friends…yeah, I’m that excited without actually having seen it. I’m only mildly worried about being disappointed. Like you, this show is tailor made for me. Choir girl through and through. In fact, one of my friends from high school choir will be coming over to watch, and another will be video chatting at the same time because we agreed it was only right to watch it with other people who’d been through this. 🙂 So it really has become a sentimental event. You can expect me to be Twittering tonight.
I can’t wait for this show. I wasn’t in choir in high school, but I was a drama clubber.
I’ve had Don’t Stop Believin in my head for weeks now, now I have Somebody To Love after watching the Upfront Video of the cast performing it.

Being a former choir-nerd/gleeker from Indiana, let me just tell you that I am pumped about this show! (Oh who am I kidding? Former? Yea right. Just because I’m almost 10 years removed from high school doesn’t mean I’ve changed my colors. And yes, I still sing some of our old songs in the shower.)
I noticed they went to a show choir performance at Carmel High School. Oooh, that brings back the memories. I remember those competitions. And the drama.
So excited!
